More than 12,000 visitors flocked to Steampacket Gardens on the Labour Day long weekend for the inaugural Sustainable Home and Garden Expo.
Not even the wild weather could dampen the spirits of visitors, exhibitors and staff.
More than 50 stall-holders relished the opportunity to share their products and services with a captivated audience. Many not-for-profit groups found the expo an ideal venue to promote their group, while businesses reported many visitors were actively seeking ways to incorporate sustainability into their everyday lives. Feedback was highly positive, with exhibitors and visitors alike keen to sign on for future events.
The guest speakers' program brought a host of topics to the one marquee. Hosts Denis Walter and Catriona Rowntree propelled the program. Jane Edmanson's presentation on drought tolerant gardening drew a huge crowd, while Vasili Kanidiadis kept his audience entertained and informed.
The Barwon Water hub was a hive of activity, with thousands keen to collect their free bucket, soil conditioner and native plant.
The team at Barwon Water are already busy planning for a bigger and better expo in 2011.
