A preferred site for Apollo Bay's new water storage has been selected following an extensive review.
Apollo Bay, Marengo, and Skenes Creek are currently supplied by the Marengo Basin. Continued growth and summer tourist influxes have forced the towns into water restrictions for the past 9 consecutive summers, due to it's limited capacity.
More than 26 options were considered as part of the review and consultation process.
The site is within the area previously earmarked for the Great Ocean Green development.
The new 250 million litre storage, combined with the existing 125 million litre Marengo basin will meet forecast growth until 2055.
Cost is estimated at more than $15 million. Construction is expected to commence in 2012.
