Today we launched the new-look Barwon Water brand.
Much more than simply a logo, the new Barwon Water brand stands for leadership, sustainability, security, innovation and customer-connected relationships.
Our new brand was developed in response to customer perception survey results that called for a "new Barwon Water"; one that showed that showed greater leadership, was more consultative and provided education, advice and support to the community.
Our Strategic Intent is our guiding document. It details our values, our promise to our customers, and the pillars on which our business is built.
The Strategic Intent encapsulates the essence of the Barwon Water brand. The new logo is a relatively small but very visual component of the "new Barwon Water".
Our new logo was developed through the "Make a splash" community competition, launched in March 2010.
The competition challenged students, businesses and community members to design a fresh and original brand to depict the spirit and future direction of Barwon Water.
From over 100 entrants, winners were selected in each of 3 categories: community, business and education.
Iconic elements of the three winning designs were combined together to create the new logo.
Education category winner: Josiah Combridge
Josiah Combridge of Lethbridge Primary School said the inspiration for his entry came from a lesson at school about water saving.
"My logo has the recycle sign with the words 'help save our water for us'," Josiah said.
"I got my idea off a lesson where we had to name things about how we save water and I said the 4 Rs - refuse, reduce, reuse and recycle - which reminded me of the recycle sign and that's how I thought it up," he said.
Business category winner: GSDM Marketing
GSDM Production Director Shane McGrath said their business entry was based on Barwon Water's link to the environment.
"It incorporates a leaf, which represents sustainability and the environment, and water droplet. The two shapes are almost intertwined, or working together, just as Barwon Water works with the environment, community, and as a team," Mr McGrath said.
Community category winner: Mitchell Cox
Community winner Mitchell Cox's eye-catching design was a hit with the judges.
"I tried to capture that feeling of an invigorating splash of water to the face," he said.
Hopefully, you will begin to notice our new brand around the region. You might see it on Barwon Water vehicles, our construction sites, on information bulletins, your next water bill, and of course on this website.
But the former brand, which was introduced in the early 1980s, will still persist for a while. The new logo will be introduced progressively, with items such as stationery updated as old stock runs out.
Please bear with us as we gradually update our forms, letters, brochures and signage with our fresh new look.
