Water restrictions wound back

Water restrictions for the greater Geelong region have been eased from Stage 4 to Stage 3.

The main benefits to customers under Stage 3 Water Restrictions include:

  • increased watering times, up to 8 hours per week
  • dripper systems can now be used during designated times
  • active sporting surfaces (such as turf wickets, bowling greens and golf tees) can be watered during specified hours.

Chairman Roger Lowrey said the roll back was a significant turning point: “The lion's share of the credit goes to our community, who have responded magnificently to restrictions over the past four years”.

Since Stage 4 water restrictions were introduced in December 2006, our customers have saved more than 33,900 million litres (5600 litres better than forecast).

Favourable spring rainfall and the fast-tracked Anglesea Borefield also contributed to our decision to ease restrictions.

We will continue to invest heavily in infrastructure to secure our long term water supply. Our major projects — the Anglesea Borefield, Melbourne-Geelong interconnection and Northern Water Plant — will deliver an extra 75% of demand within the next 5 years.
