Sewer mining

Sewer mining is the practice of extracting wastewater from the sewerage network and treating it to produce recycled water.

As sustainable water use increases, sewer mining and the resultant recycled water is becoming increasingly more attractive as an alternative water source.

Barwon Water has developed a policy and guidelines on sewer mining which provides an opportunity to service and guide the sustainable development of alternative water supply options in the region.

We are currently working with the Curlewis Golf Club on the region's first sewer mining project.
