Government water bill rebates

Residential customers will receive an average of $75 off their water bills each financial year for four years (2014 to 2017 inclusive).

Barwon Water customers will receive total savings of $300, delivered annually as:

  • $50 reduction from 1 July 2014
  • $80 reduction from 1 July 2015
  • $90 reduction from 1 July 2016
  • $80 reduction from 1 July 2017.

The rebate is provided to residential customers who pay a water volume charge. Landlords and non-residential customers do not receive the rebate.

Barwon Water has made cost savings to fund this rebate.

To help smooth the transition, the rebate will be $80 in 2017 rather than the $100 originally planned.

From 1 July 2018 onwards, we will maintain the cost savings made to fund the rebate, but will pass these savings through as lower water prices. This means that customer bills will remain stable and as low as possible.

Am I eligible for the rebates?

If you are a residential customer and your water bill contains a usage charge component you will receive the government water bill rebates. You do not need to apply for the rebates as they are applied automatically.

When and how do I receive my rebates ?

The rebates will be applied over four years, commencing 1 July 2014.

Rebates are applied once per financial year, in the July-to-September quarter.

The rebate will appear as a credit on your water bill.

Do hardship programs still apply?

Yes. We offer a number of programs for customers experiencing financial hardship. These include payment plans, discounts for concession card holders, relief grants and more. These programs will continue to apply alongside the government water bills rebates.
